Early Days
Langdon Clay purchased his first camera, a Pentax Spotmatic 1A, from Olden Camera on St. Patrick’s Day, 1968. Using Kodak Tri-x 400 film, Clay began to record the NYC streets- walking from Herald Square down to the West Village and all around Schermerhorn Row and the Fulton Fish Market and on to the Staten Island Ferry and sometimes to Hoboken, New Jersey. His infamous “Cars” series was recorded on Kodachrome 25 slides in the same familiar color rich streets.
